what is Plant Conservation Day?

Plant Conservation Day (May 18th) is a fantastic excuse to celebrate the importance of plants and learn more about the key role we all play in their conservation.Plant Conservation Day was started in 2001 by the Association of Zoological Horticulture (AZH), and has been actively celebrated by zoos throughout the United States since then. In 2006, Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) partnered with AZH to help expand Plant Conservation Day celebrations to botanic gardens and develop resources to make celebrating easy and fun for any organization, group, or individual interested in conserving the world's plants. These resources are all available at www.plantconservationday.org.In 2008, Plant Conservation Day celebrations were held around the U.S. and in Europe. In 2009, funding from the Boeing Company is allowing BGCI and AZH to work with their membership networks and partners around the world to hold celebrations in more countries and to involve many thousands more people. Boeing employees will also be volunteering at selected botanic gardens to support Plant Conservation Day in Australia, China, Europe, Russia, and the United States. Funding from Boeing has also supported this website, which features easy activities botanic gardens, zoos, and individual organizers can do to celebrate Plant Conservation Day and help conserve the world’s plants

HElp Save Turtle!

"Turtles play a critical role in keeping marine ecosystems healthy; the same ecosystems which sustain our fisheries and tourism industries that provide food and livelihoods for millions of people. Marine turtles are threatened with extinction due to various factors, including: the practice of consuming turtle eggs, marine and nesting beach pollution as well as illegal trade of turtles and their parts.
Leatherback turtles have already been declared functionally extinct in Malaysia. In the 1950s, there were 10,000 leatherback nests in Rantau Abang each year; now there are less than 10. Moreover, turtle protection laws are inadequate.
